02.Jun.2010 Family holidays: the main culprit for students skipping school – reports
It’s been disclosed that more than six percent of class time was lost because more children are now skipping class with or without valid excuses.
The figures were posted by Department for Education based on the figures they compiled for the past year. Translating the percentage, about 378,471 state school pupils in England has skipped school every day.
The biggest reason for the absences was surprisingly because of family holidays. Coming in at second is sickness.
Research showed that thousands of parents have taken their children to family holidays despite the school term and it was found out that they lied to school teachers about this in order to avoid paying fines. Parents have called to school teachers saying their kids are sick even though the real reason was they are going on a holiday vacation.
