17.Mar.2010 Parents resorting to term-time holidays face £50 fines
The East Riding of Yorkshire Council in England are making corrective measures on parents that continually take their children on holidays even though the schools are in session.
According to the latest statistics, the schools in East Riding have the most number of absences from children. Parents have been taking their children on holiday expeditions without securing permissions from schools in doing so.
This led the council officials to implement a £50 penalty notice for violators.
In key periods during the year, pupils should not go in holiday expeditions without consent from the school. These key periods include the first six weeks of any academic year.
In years ten and eleven, no holidays will be allowed and even during year six SATs week.
Schools can also implement their individual time tables where they won’t approve holidays.
