11.Mar.2010 Taiwan declares April 4 as Children’s Day holiday

April 4 is now part of the list of holidays for Taiwanese residents as the government declared the date as Children’s Day and is considered a national holiday. This is based on the draft of the Order to Implement Commemoration Days and Holidays by Taiwan’s Ministry of Interior.

This development was announced by Minister Jiang Yi-huah earlier this week.

The Children’s and Women’s Days were originally set on March 8. However, after the Minister of Interior talked with feminist groups, it has been agreed that both Children’s and Women’s Day holidays will take place on April 4. This gives parents the opportunity to accompany their children during that day. The Ministry clarified that March 8 will no longer be a holiday.

The holiday has been set in a bid to let parents spend more time with their children and vice versa.
